You're Not The Only One - Charity Book for Warchild
UPDATE 2: Hey guys - thanks again so much for all your comments and emails saying you've ordered the book and/or have received it and enjoyed it. Yay! I do read them all, things have got a bit crazy in my world of late so I haven't had a chance to answer you individually or even blog properly. Will be back as soon as poss - we've raised over £800 in the first week for Warchild and the total still goes up - ! I am waiting on the ISBN number and making any final adjustments and amendments and then we go GLOBAL, ha, ok not global, but then we hit the high street shops etc and the book becomes a real live hardcopy book ... but that's taking most of my time and nearly all of my patience. I've also got some work issues, have to find some new housemates and I've a court appearance and several baby related Drs appointments ahead, so apologies if I'm not seen here blogging for a while - I'm still around and leaving comments on yours when I can, and I do need to hear from you (email is best please) if there are any further amendments to be made to the book.
See you very soon, thanks for buying the book and all your plugging and pimping - keep spreading the word and let's try to hit the £1K mark asap !

UPDATE: Hi guys - thanks for all your comments and emails - I've amended as many urls and changed names as much as poss - it means that the first few prints are different, but until we have the ISBN number, this shouldn't matter too much. BUT I have a proposition for you - if I have ballsed up your URL in the book - I will buy another amended copy for you - so drop me your address via private email if you find I have.
Ok, so it took three months, but rest assured it is three months of BRILLIANCE, of EXCELLENCE, of carefully chosen GORGEOUS bits of writing, of lovingly tendered editing and proofing, of gently nurtured and carefully catered for tastes and styles and with over ONE HUNDRED BLOGGERS' ENTRIES - woo hoooooooo!

Firstly - THANK YOU to ALL of you who sent something in. ALL OF YOU. The final count was about 400 entries, which was a brilliant response, some of you sent in more than one (and a few of you more than 3!). I'm grateful you were all so generous to share, with potentially the world at large, some of your most private and intimate stories. It was tough reading what some of you have been through and amazing at the same time. Thank you.
If everyone who submitted something for the book, whether they made it or not, still bought the book that's a guaranteed £2.4 k we will have made for Warchild right there.

The second thing is: A huge thank you to Ariel, Desperate Sarah, Ms Robinson and Vi who have been bloody brilliant, especially Ariel who has helped me so much with the editing.
I chose 4 very different bloggers for the team so we had a good mix of tastes and preferences in picking the pieces, plus we had a slick voting system which meant we ruled out favouritism and bias as much as possible. Thus, a piece one of us loved wouldn't necessarily be loved by all or any of the others ....and I want you to know we scrapped a bit and debated and heckled quite a lot over quite a few of the pieces.
We all read every single entry more than once. We each voted 2 points for a def yes and 1 for a maybe. NO entries got 0 out of 10 so that means, whether you're in it or not, whatever you sent in meant something to at least one of us (I'm not entirely sure this makes you feel any better, but I hope it does).
I think we have a fantastic mixture of serious, poignant and moving stories together with upbeat, lighthearted posts which will make you feel a bit more like you're not the only one, and makes a great read too.

And thus, I guess, the biggest point I want to make is that if you're NOT in it, it means nothing bad whatsoever.
In the end, we had a limit of 200 pages for the stories (which we didn't manage to stick to as it is). We tried to keep all pieces under 1500 words (which we also didn't manage to stick to for one or two), plus sometimes there were several stories on very similar topics.
But, the response was so good we already want to do another one ( You're Not The Only One, Too? You're Still Not The Only One? Hey! Look There's Someone With You?) so please know it means nothing if your piece didn't make it in.
1) Buy the book and maybe leave a review:
2) Publicise the book on your site and link back here again please.

BUT I have a proposition for you - if I have ballsed up your URL in the book - I will buy another amended copy for you - so drop me your address via private email if you find I have.Ah, its been a great three months, my blog's hit the 50th Most Influential Blog in the UK and I've had over 250 hits per day for the past 16 weeks or so! Now, I know it's not for my scintillating writing, my sidesplitting anecdotes or my filthy fantasies, it's only because of the book (sniff) but hey, it's been nice to be so popular, I hope you come back again even though the book's out...
Because it's HERE! We did it!
The book costs £12.50
£5.00 goes to production costs (that Lulu take and pass on) Lulu.com takes £1.50 for themselves in fees (but I THINK they're going to waive that for us) and the rest, £6 goes to Warchild.
*If you buy it as a download, £10 of the £12.50 goes to Warchild*
Now, I suppose you want to know first off who's in it eh? All your little comments and questions over the past three months - I'm sorry it took so long and I'm sorry you had to wait!
Before I list the contributors, you'll have to hang on because I want to say a few things:

Now, here's who's in it - if your URL is wrong, I've spelt your name wrong here or in the book, we can change it, so do let me know.

Excellent stuff! Well done to all concerned. I shall get it into my sidebar promptly and do a post x
Yaaaaay!!! Well done and thank you! Now..how do I get one of those fancy Lulu 'buy now widgets'? I'll put apost up tomorrow (with or without a widget) and also update my sidebar bit about the book.
Well done to everyone who contriuted but especially well done to you and your co-editors, Peach - you've worked so hard on this and we only saw a fraction of what you did!
I'm honoured to have had a piece chosen, I honestly didn't think I was good enough so I feel really chuffed today (after a shite weekend!).
I'll get a post up about it asap, although it'll take me a bit of time to work out the sidebar bit - I'm crap at that stuff.
Well done again!
Crikey! Congrats to everyone on the list, can't believe I am on it too!
Well done Peach!
Can we buy this anywhere other than on-line? I know several people who would like a copy but are credit-card-less at the moment.
Thank you Peach - can't wait to read the whole book and will tell absolutely everyone that they must buy it.
Thanks a lot for all your hard work. That's this year's Christmas presents all sorted out!
p.s. my url is http://ganching.typepad.com

Well done Peach, and well done to all of the contributors.
I still can't believe I made it into the book...I cried a lot when I found out!
So chuffed to be included...now I'm off to tell everyone I know to buy the book and take to the streets to badger strangers!
Great to see some of my own personal favourite bloggers included too- can't wait to read the book.
Well done. I'm uncharacteristically impressed.
Thank you so much for including my piece - I am proud to be in your book and look forward to owning one.
It doesn't matter but my name is Pat Mackay (MACKAY). Good luck with the sales and I'll do the necessary with help.
Please, miss... will you sign my copy?
Yay! This is very exciting!
And what a lot of work it's been for you, along with everything else you've got going on.
Spending some time resting up after this?
Ordered and eagerly awaiting. :)
Well done to all and I've ordered a copy. Now where will I post my comments? It's like a new media reading blog posts in a book!
Wow! How exciting :D
Thanks so much for including me. I'm off to go tell everyone I know, so they can buy a copy!!
Well done, preggypants and the top team! I'm superchuffed to see my name on the list and can't wait to see which of my 29 submissions was chosen! ;)
I'm honored to be included in the book. I've linked to it in my post today. Thanks so much for this worthy project!
How exciting!!!
Now I have to work out how to sell as many copies as I can without 'outing' myself.
Can't WAIT to read it :o)
Hi
At last.
and would it be possible to change my url from secretwalk.blogspot.com to karentookawalk.blogspot.com?
I've moved back in February and moved the archives as well.
(I am very excited to be included, btw. It's the keyboard's fault that it's not showing my grin and thumping heart)
I had no idea the book was out. Will link to it in my next post.
Great work guys.
Fantastic! Putting a book together is no mean feat. Such a good cause and thank you for including me.
Congrats to everyone included, and especially the team. Have ordered a copy. And thanks for providing a blog post subject for today! I too would appreciate info on how to get a Lulu 'widget', seeing as I'm a technomoron. Hope it makes loadsamoney, am off to advertise.
Well done everyone!!! Let hope lots of money is made!
Oh my! Congratulations on your achievement - I know from personal experience what a tough job you must have had. Will order and plug later today...
Well done on all your hard work Peach and team and congratulations to all those that made it into the book!
I'm so excited to be in it. Thank you and your team for all the hard work. I shall blog about this tonight.
Dx
Hurrah!!!!
I've posted on my old blog about it, and will try and figure out how to link on the new one!
Brilliant stuff, and I enjoyed doing it!
It looks great! I am also super-excited to have made it onto the magical list. Well done for all your hard work.
I now just need to try to work out how to put it on my sidebar.
Thank you xx
Congratulations... well done you!! Of course you will always be No 1 blogger in my book!!
See you soon,
Dxxxxxxx
Congratulations on the accomplishment!. I am honored to be part of this effort.
Congratulations to all! I've already ordered my copy, to see the lovely Jane in print. I'm leaving for New York tomorrow, but my mum's been given strict orders to mail it out to me once it arrives!
Looking forward to reading it!
yay and brilliant and fantastically wonderful effort. well done. i can't believe i am on the list, never imagined i would be. have e'd for the bits for blog, please x
Thank you for including my piece. I shall be ordering it and writing about the book/linking to this just as soon as my holiday back-log has been cleared.
OMG!!! I am so excited to be in a book!! I've already ordered my copy and can't wait to read what everyone else submitted. Thank ya'll for your hard work on putting this together.
And I am tech-tarded like the others and have no idea how to put this in my sidebar so that's it clickable. Someone help a sistah out please. Thanks! :)
Bravo to you and your helpers! I can't wait to buy the book. It's a great achievement and you should be so very proud of yourself.
I'm massively chuffed to have been included and to have words wot I writted nestling in such illustrious company.
You've done an amazing job - can't wait til it drops through my letterbox and I can read everyone else's pieces.
Well done you!
Congrats, Peach. It really is a good book.
Thank you so much for including me! I'm going to pass the word out to my huge family so hopefully they'll buy a ton of these books and help out War Child.
Ordered and linked, as promised - well done you!
J
bummer I wasn't good enough, but congrats on getting it done and to those who got in. I'll run up a link as pledged.
I've ordered two copies - really delighted to have been included. I will post and plug soon!
Plugged and linked.
Oh. Anna Pickard is at http://littleredboat.co.uk/
and not .com
Toot toot!
This is wonderful!! What a great milestone in blogging to ALL who have contributed!
Well done, Peach, and thanks for making this possible!
Fantastic stuff Peachy, you and your team of editors have clearly worked your socks off. Book looks wonderful! Opted for the download because I just couldn't wait to read it!!! Been hooked - making work difficult! Am absolutely chuffed to have been included alongside some of my favourite reads and some real talent!
Well done guys!! x
Well done, Peach - you've done an absolutely fantastic job. And oooh, am included! Yay! I will - as I would otherwise, of course - go and link to this immediately. And buy it, of course. Several times over.
(and in a totally non-diva way, farty is right about my url. It is not .com, but .co.uk - and doesn't have lots of dots, just the normal ones - but you did have fifty million urls to put in that post so my GOD I'm completely not having a go at you for getting just one wrong!)
Congratulations! Really nice work.
Hi guys - thanks for all your comments and emails - I've amended as many urls and changed names as much as poss - it means that the first few prints will be different, but until we have the ISBN number, this shouldn't matter too much.
BUT I have a proposition for you - if I have ballsed up your URL in the book (as I did Anna'a (now changed)) - I will buy another amended copy for you - so drop me your address if you find I have.
SXXX
Link added :) congratulations and well done!
bloody well done, peach. enidd is stunned at the energy and effort you put into this while coping with so much else. leaves her ashamed and small.
she's ordered a copy and is writing a post with her left hand while her right types this.
have a rest, you deserve it.
ps thanks for choosing enidd. she's sure she's not worthy.
Congrats on getting the book out - wish I wasn't going thru such a dry spell, but such is life :-)
Hi, everyone!
I managed to add the widgets in my sidebar (and if I can do it...)
If you're working in Blogger, right click on the book picture and choose "Save Picture As". Do the same for the Lulu icon.
On your Blogger page, click on "customize" and then "add a page element".
From there, you will "add a picture". Find the picture of the book you just saved. Add a link to this post for explanations and save the whole thing.
Choose "add a page element" again for the Lulu icon. Link it to the sales page.
Save everything and then re-arrange your page elements so they make sense!
Typepad and Wordpress people will need someone else to help them.
I hope this made sense!
Woohoo! I've just purchased my copy.
I am thrilled and honoured to be (I may have squealed in the office yesterday) some truly brilliant bloggers. Three to five working days never went so slowly...
Have a glass of (non-alcoholic, of course!) champagne on us, Peach. You've well and truly earned it.
Well done and thank you to the editors for pulling this together. I am delighted to be included and am plugging this through my blog, website and other places I frequent online!
Well done to you and your team!
Wow! Thank you for including my story, I'm off to order the book. My sidebar has been updated despite my technological challenges.
Congratulations on getting this finished with all of the other things you have going on, and congratulations on your good news about your scan. Everyone keeps telling me the first 20 or so years are the worst… but my eldest is 6 and I wouldn’t swap a day of parenthood.
Okay back to the book, I’ve been plugging it left right and centre on Red Bubble, and will hit MySpace over the next day or so. My only regret is I wish I’d spotted the typo in my story before I sent it off… may be it got picked up in the editing process…but if not I’ve only myself to blame.
Cheers
Micky
WELL DONE PEACHY POOOOOO!!!
So HAPPY FOR YOU!!! xx
Blimey O'Reilly. I'm only in it!
Good job, and thank you.
I've ordered my copy, and am just off to post on my blog about it.
Congrats you guys, this is fantastic. Gonna go buy my copy now and post on www.bitsontheside.co.nz on monday.
Kapai!!!
xxx
I guess it's a bit like giving birth, eh? So Peachy, you've done it once with words, you can do it again with a little human... x
I am totally humbled and elated to be featured in this great book for the charity of War Child.
I've emailed you for a link for the BUY ME widget and the Image of the book so I can market it on my little blog.
Thanks SO Much. Truly, you're a gem.
Well done Peachy Goodness and Co.!
I shall have to purchase a copy, when I have any funds available.
And I WILL submit an entry for the sequel. I promise.
Good show! Tim x
Wunderbar! I have bought 2 copies.
Congratulations to all
xoxo
Hon, how about doing a post where people can leave their review of the book? My copy finally arrived today, so I guess others are starting to trickle in now as well!
ooh 66 comments - you'll never read mine! here from enidd's to say hello
belleek
i was so thrilled to receive my copy this morning. i settled down to read it and found that after one or two stories i had to stop and gather myself together. some of them were just plain funny and provided light relief for the other few which contained quite a punch.
Hey guys - thanks so much for all your comments - I do read them all, just that things have got a bit crazy in my world of late so I haven't had a chance to answer you idividually or blog! Will be back as soon as poss - glad you enjoy the book!
Sarah
Well, that was unexpected - guess there just must have been a dearth of short, sort of funny, insect-inspired ennui posts. Anyway, I'm honoured :)
Well done Peach, the team, and everyone! Looking forward to reading the other stuff...
